Biography
He learned to play chess at the age of 17. Already in the autumn of 1927 he joined the Valka chess group, which founded the Valka Sports Association chess section. 1 From 1930 to 1933 he was the leader of this section of chess. Has won three Valka chess master titles. In the first half of the 1930s he regularly participated in Latvian chess championships . The greatest success was won in Jelgava in 1932 , when the division was 1-2. place in the 1st round of the 1932 Latvian Chess Championship with Movs Feigin . In April, however, in a four-party match in Riga, he had to concede to the next Latvian champion with a ½: 2½. 2Interestingly, in the next two Latvian Chess Championships, Eclon managed to achieve a positive result against Feigin - 1½: ½. In 1932, he played a draw match with then Estonia representative Vlada Mycenae - 2½: 2½. In 1934 Valka, the grandmaster of Austria Rudolf Spielman , visited Valka , who gave simultaneous games to the best chess players in the city and ended a draw after a tough fight with Eclon. In 1933 Eclone published a chess textbook "Handbook for Playing Chess", which made a significant contribution to the promotion of chess in Latvia. 3In the second half of the 1930s, Eclon's growth as a chess player came to a halt. The press said at the time that Eclone would have long been a chess master if he lived in Riga, as the provincial chess player had difficulty with travel and other expenses to participate in serious chess tournaments. 4 In 1940, Eclon won the title of Vidzeme Area Chess Master, 5 but in 1941 he moved to Talsi and became the Talsi Chess Master. 6 He was also invited to participate in the 1st Latvian SSR Chess Championship in Riga in the spring of 1941, but has not played in this tournament. 7 After World War IImoved to Riga. Continued to participate in chess tournaments. The biggest success was in the 1954 split 1-2. place with Karl Klassup in Riga Chess Championship. He also participated in the 1959 Riga Chess Championship. 8 The last major success was entering the Latvian Chess Championship final in 1960, which had to settle for a place at the end of the tournament table.
