1942. gada rudenī laikraksti Sporta Pasaule, Kurzemes Vards, Deutsche Zeitung im Ostland, iespējams arī citi, publicēja šādu informāciju:

Atzīmejot mūsu izcilā meistara K. Betins 75 gadu jubileju, Arodbiedrību Centrāla Savienība rīko plašu latviešu gambīta korespondencturnīru.

Deutsche Zeitung im Ostland 1942. gada 27. oktobra šaha nodaļā publicēta informācija, ka līdz noteiktajam termiņam organizatori saņēmuši pieteikumus no 44 šahistiem. Izveidotas sešas grupas - pirmajā iedalīti spēcīgākie Latvijas šahisti, un cīņas sākušās.

1942. gadā notika pirmais neklātienes tematiskais Latviešu gambīta turnīrs, kurā visu laiku līderis un, liekas, arī uzvarētājs bija T.Zeids.

Autoram izdevās atrast divas šajā turnīrā spēlēta jau pieminētā 1 grupā, taču iespējams, ka arī otrā. Janis Vilkins jau pirmskara gados bija pazīstams kā spēcīgs neklātienes partiju spēlētājs, bet Vodemars Vetra - pirmskara gados pazīstams ar uzvārdu Čura bija viens no spēcīgakajiem Jelgavas šahistiem - 1937. gada pilsētas meistars, daudzu sacensību uzvarētājs un godalgoto vietu ieguvējs.

In the autumn of 1942, the Sporta Pasaule, Kurzemes Vards, Deutsche Zeitung im Ostland, possibly others, published the following information:

In celebration of the 75th anniversary of our distinguished master K. Betin, the Central Union of Trade Unions is hosting a large Latvian gambit correspondence tournament.

The chess section of the Deutsche Zeitung im Ostland of 27 October 1942 published information that applications had been received from 44 chess players by the deadline. Six groups have been formed - the first of which includes the strongest Latvian chess players, and games have begun.

In 1942, the first off-field themed Latvian gambit tournament was held, with T. Zeid as the leader and, apparently, the winner of all time.

Janis Wilkins was known as a strong correspondence player in the pre-war years, while Vodemar Vetra, known as Chura in the pre-war years, was one of Jelgava's most powerful chess players, a winner of many competitions and award winners in 1937.
