Neil Brennen (Correspondence Chess News - Issue 86, 2003):
Dolde won the Pittsburgh Chess Club Championship in 1913 with 24 out of 26 points, with two draws the only blemishes on his record. He then won the Western Pennsylvania Championship in a match with former Chicagoan Kalman Erdeky by the score of 4-0. American Chess Bulletin wrote of Dolde, "The champion's play was careful in the openings, but he found three opportunities to sacrifice, producing situations which thoroughly aroused the gallery."
The game below is from the 1911-1912 preliminary to the Western Pennsylvania Championship. Dolde helped establish the tournament, partly because the "official" Pennsylvania Championship, organized by the Pennsylvania State Chess Association, was always held in far-off Philadelphia, and partly because of the retirement of the unofficial Western Pennsylvania Champion, B. F. Lutton. Although Dolde did not win the event, he did have the satisfaction of defeating the tournament winner.
