SJP

- Fun in the Open Games
My favourite set of openings, encompassing all which begin 1. e4 e5. It includes such loveliness as the refined Spanish Game, the venerable Italian Game, the romantic King's Gambit, the solid Russian Game and the feisty Scotch Game. There are many miscellaneous openings, such as the Vienna Game, the Philidor and many exciting Gambits.

| 10 games, 1920-1991 - The Best of Serafino Dubois
Serafino Dubois (1817-1899) was the greatest Italian chess player of his time. He challenged some of the other greats of the era, and beat them, including Wyvill, De Riviere, Budsinzky, Kowsky, Bonetti... He met his match, however in future World Champion Wilhelm Steinitz, to whom he lost 5 1/2 - 3 1/2. Dubois was also a great opening theoretician, and lines in the King's Gambit and Scotch Gambit are named for him. And like me, he hated the French Defence.
