Jun-15-06  crptone: This definitely is the lion defense (including the jaw). White grabs "a lion's share" of the center, added with the early f4. Black develops in hypermodern style (although this strategy fails him considerably as he is overrun by the pawn center)
Jun-15-06  CapablancaFan: Wow, white didn't move a piece until move 18! White has violated every opening and development rule handed down to chess players for centuries...and did it well he did!
Jun-15-06  harcee sarmiento: a nonsense game. posting such a none important game makes the chessgames.com dull.
Jun-15-06  Mendrys: <harcee sarmiento> Most games on their database are "non-important". It's not everday you get to see a game with 17 consecutive pawn moves right from the start. In this regards I find the game to be highly interesting.
Jun-15-06  kevin86: White's slogan for the first seventeen moves:no piece,no justice!

Black isn't exactly well developed-with only a bishop and knight on the second row. He had no open lines to speak of-he was drowning. The white pieces, though unmoved, were much more poised than black's.

Jun-15-06  zev22407: White had made his first piece move on the 18 move -Qh5+
Jun-15-06  dakgootje: dont really care about the nameof the opening to be honest, but i like it =)
Jun-15-06  filipecea: <a nonsense game. posting such a none important game makes the chessgames.com dull.> ??

<harcee sarmiento> Sorry, but your statement deserves two question marks..

Jun-15-06  Castle In The Sky: This game demonstrates that a bad passive player can make a questionable opening look playable. Black had so many opportunities for challenge such as playing an early h5 to stop white's king side attack. Or castling earlier and trying for a pawn break. Instead, plays white game in very poor form.
Jun-15-06  rochade18: I expected something like that from a game of the day with Diemer being one of the players
Jun-15-06  ajile: This is a fun opening by Diemer in his favorite opening. This gambit reminds me of the Danish Gambit (1.e4 e5,2.d4 exd, 3.c3) but it's on the K-side instead of the Q-side.

E J Diemer vs Zujus, 1948

Maybe Heiling wanted to avoid this by playing 1..Nf6.

Sneaky: <harcee sarmiento: a nonsense game. posting such a none important game makes the chessgames.com dull.> You win the wet-blanket award of the day. Lighten up man!!
Jun-19-06  harcee sarmiento: <SNEAKY> and what do you call that opening??? ALIEN!! HEHE!!!! i'd rather see kasparov beating by a child than to see him playing this you so called highlly interesting move. ask fischer about this and he'll give you a straight punch right in your nose.
Aug-11-06  Chess Lou Zer: My god! I've never seen so many pawn moves in an opening in my life! Very unusual game!
Jun-27-07  Judah: A fitting last game for Emil Diemer. (http://www.chesscafe.com/text/hans0...)
Dec-18-07  porgue: <harcee sarmiento: a nonsense game. posting such a none important game makes the chessgames.com dull.>

i hope to god you are being sarcastic... 17 straight pawn moves !! to start off the game!! you gotta be kidding...

Dec-13-08  wweiss: Playing like this is frequently a good strategy against computers who are largely ignorant of king safety. I cannot tell you how often I've played against MacChess and won not out of tactical prowess, but simply because I push kingside pawns in the opening and the program castles right into danger. Here's one such illustrative game for those interested:

Weiss vs MacChess 1-0
1. f4 d5 2. Nf3 e6 3. g4 Bd6 4. e3 Nc6 5. Qe2 Nge7 6. c3 0-0 7. Qg2 Ng6 8. h4 Nge7 9. d3 e4 10. f5 a5 11. e4 a4 12. Nbd2 Ra7 13. g5 Na5 14. h5 dxe4 15. dxe4 Bd7 16. f6 Nc8 17. fxg7 Kxg7 18. Qg3 Qe8 19. Nc4 Nxc4 20. Bxc4 Nb6 21. Be3 Ra8 22. g6 hxg6 23. Bh6+! Kh8 24. hxg6

Just push pawns, avoid trades, and gain space, and you can best your computer!

Jan-19-09  WhiteRook48: first 17 moves are all pawn moves by White!!
Feb-14-09  WhiteRook48: Philidor would have liked this game very much
Apr-20-09  WhiteRook48: <harcee sarmiento: a nonsense game. posting such a none important game makes the chessgames.com dull> All those sacs and pawn moves! You have ought to be crazy if you're serious! ???
Nov-20-09  Dubirka: I dont think that black played bad here but i think his mistake was move 13. .. N6d7. If he would have sacrificed his knight for three pawns he would have had a dominant position with a passt pawn on the E file and a dominant center. He should have played 13. .. e5xd4, followed by 14. .. Bb7, removing the Bf1xb5+ threat stopping the white queen from getting to the e5 square, and black would be completely winning. He could take the b6 pawn whenever he wanted.
Nov-20-09  Dubirka: sorry i meant stopping the white queen from getting to the d5 square
Aug-12-10  pierocampilii: hehe! this one demostrates once again that Diemer just hated pawns hehe! ...he'd surely be happy if they weren't there at all but in the other hand, d...m! ...he knew how to move 'em.
Oct-05-10  pierocampilii: hehe! 18.Qh5+ ... 22... good bye Queen!!! This man was a genius and makes me think about Mozart. Italian children usually gets into chess by playing with pawns only...
Jan-20-12  Morphischer: This is the Seventeen Pawns Attack Opening.
