Apr-09-04  iron maiden: First, "six extra pawns," then today, "seventeen pawn moves." Seems chessgames.com finally ran out of puns, and now they're going completely literal.
Apr-09-04  Benjamin Lau: I think they're trying to help you find stuff for your collection. They like to do that occasionally, a game a while ago had a famous actor for collections that included stars for instance.
Apr-09-04  nikolaas: It reminds me of a game between Ragozin and Marshall. I'll post is here, but not now because I've not enough time. This is also my last posting ina week or so, so you have to wait a while...
Apr-09-04  Hanada: <nikolaas:> Thanks for your schedule update. We'll all be waiting with bells on.

  Honza Cervenka: Bizarre game. 28...Kd7 was a mistake. Black should have played 28...Kf7. Of course, he cannot take the Knight for 29...axb5 30.Bxb5+ Kc8 31.Rxe7 threatening Rc7# and now if 31...Na6, then 32.Re8+ Kxb7 33.Bc6# or if 31...Nd7, then 32.Re8+ Kxb7 33.Bc6+ Ka6 34.Rxa8#.
Apr-09-04  kevin86: Another whimsical game! It is said that you advance pawns before pieces-but after this game, what is the rule? Advance your pawns as much and as far as possible.lol

After all, white does come up with a queen and another in the bullpen.

Apr-09-04  iron maiden: I'm surprised all those pawn moves didn't weaken the White camp enough for Black to counterattack. White really had to keep the initiative here.
Apr-09-04  Ed Caruthers: Am I the only one who thinks there's something suspicious? Annotations might be really amuzing.
Apr-09-04  weary willy: <It reminds me of a game between Ragozin and Marshall> Yes - it's on this site as Marshall vs Rogosin - New York 1940 - Sicilian Wing Gambit.

<Ed Caruthers: Am I the only one who thinks there's something suspicious?> Dunno Ed - looks OK to me ... you can get a long way with pawn moves against the d6/g6 set-ups ... are you familiar with the Chinese g4 attacks against it? Donner was mashed.

Apr-09-04  Bitzovich: Liu Wenzhe vs J H Donner, 1978
Wow, u r rite, he WAS mashed!
Apr-17-04  nikolaas: <weary willy> It's indeed this game. Thanks for your help, I was just searching for Ragozin because I knew he ewisted and because in my book it's mentioned as Marshall vs. Ragozin.

<hanada> It's needless to wait any longer; the game is already in the database.

Feb-24-05  aw1988: Probably one of my favorite games- simply for the absurdity.
Feb-24-05  Seraphina: This is a funny game. I guess if Black would have been a little more aggressive in the beginning... like d5 once he saw that Diemer (what ELSE would he do) was about to set up f3-e4-d4... And things like that. It is really hard to defend against this kind of snow job... on 31 white could have gotten the rook a8 by sacking the exchange on e7, That might have shortened the game somwhat.
Mar-04-05  soberknight: I don't see any obvious errors on White's first 17 moves. If I had black I would have probably played 2...d5.
Jun-22-05  BadTemper: Im posting here so everyone can look at this insane game. No piece moves for 18 moves.. too funny.
Jan-03-06  DeepBlade: I dont know what to think about the excessive pawn moves, is it some kind of ''move-odd'' or just an funner?

Anyway, great game by Diemer. Diemer shows active piece play, which was his trademark.

Apr-18-06  Gantastic: Black didn't take long to begin with the errors. 2. d5 is a must. See the Opening Explorer: White doesn't lose a game to any other response.

Jun-15-06  makaveli52: I wonder how much white won on that bet
Jun-15-06  chessmoron: What a cool name for an chess opening--> Lion Defense: Lion's Jaw

  lostemperor: This is not a lion's defense 1. e4 d6 2. d4 Nf6 3. Nc3 Nbd7. It's pirc (or even sicilian).

chrisowen: Agreed. One theme of the Lion is to launch a kingside pawn attack under favourable conditions starting with Black's 1..Nf6..d6..Nd7...e5. Diemer showed who's balls were king.
Jun-15-06  United33: whoa a strange opening but this is really a cool game !!
Jun-15-06  ice lemon tea: weird yet very interesting....the white pawns had been advanced too far ahead, yet black couldn't find the hole for couter-attack...

alexmagnus: If you give this game into fritz 8, it refuses to analyze it. On some move it's eveluation begins to jump like crazy and then it writes "runtime error".

lostemperor: To be exact, this opening is more a King's Indian, Samisch Variation without the immediate 2. c4.
