Kibitzer's Corner
Sep-30-04  Knight13: Umm... Good duel.
Sep-30-04  suenteus po 147: Why not play 59...Kxb3? Am I missing something? Is this a theoretically drawn endgame?
Sep-30-04  Knight13: <suenteus po 147> I agree with your Idea.
Apr-22-06  Gypsy: <Is this a theoretically drawn endgame?> I believe so.
Apr-22-06  Milo: Kxb3 gets hit with c5+, maybe?
Apr-22-06  Milo: uh, never mind :)
May-07-06  sneaky pete: 31.Ne7 .. is premature. The weakening of the white squares could have been exploited by playing 31.Ba4 .. (suggested by Staunton), threatening Nf5-e7-c6+, winning at least pawn d5, unless black prefers giving up the exchange.
Dec-16-07  nimh: Rybka 2.3.1 mp, AMD X2 2.01GHz, 10 min per move, threshold 0.33.

Dec-16-07  sambo: <suenteus po 147: Why not play 59...Kxb3? Am I missing something? Is this a theoretically drawn endgame?> Endgames are my weakness, but I believe that since the bishops are opposite colors there will always be a way for one player to block the other's queening squares. Not totally sure, but that seems to be the principle.

I think in this instance a reasonable ending would be 59...Kxb3 60. Be6 and white can defend both of his queenside pawns by shuttling his bishop between d5 and b7.

Feb-01-12  Knight13: Compared to many of the other La Bourdonnais vs McDonnell games, this one is smoother with sprinkles of modern play.
