Dec-01-11  Kinan: One of only 3 wins by Alekhine in this tournament, and it came out really good.

SteinitzLives: Alekhine showed some real good play in this game, but Flohr who finished in distant last place could not have been at his best. Fines' two victories over Alekhine must have been a big blow. I've read that Capablanca and Alekhine were not on speaking terms during this tourney, so his victory over Capa must have felt good.

perfidious: Alekhine had the 'Indian sign' on Flohr, especially early in Flohr's career, and when he had White. Short draws predominated when Alekhine was Black, the score being +1 =5 for Alekhine, compared to +4 =2 as White.
Jul-24-14  jerseybob: <perfidious: Alekhine had the 'Indian sign' on Flohr> Which is why I'm always amazed to see him touted in old writings as a worthy challenger for the World Title.
Jul-25-14  aliejin: Flohr had many success for those years
( he won, shared. leningrado-moscow
that year and kemeri the previous year
among other tournaments ( I'm
remembering moscow 1935 podebrad 1936
etc )
Jul-25-14  jerseybob: aliejin: Who said he didn't? The only issue I'm discussing is their head-on-head confrontations, and what that might've meant for a championship match. By that criterion, several other players would've been tougher, more worthy opponents for AA.
Jul-26-14  aliejin: " aliejin: Who said he didn't?"

Apologies, I misunderstood
However, if we look at the period
1933/1938 closely, Flohr has no upper
,on a balance sheet.
I think his only flaw is AVRO

harrylime: From around move 22 , maybe even before, Alekhine just took off . The way he juggled his Bishop and Knight to land on the right squares at THE right time is impressive. After this he just seemed to have everything in control .. I've not silicon checked this and I don't want to .. the overall impression of the game leaving me in awe is good enough for me.
Dec-25-18  DonChalce: smart!
