Kibitzer's Corner
Oct-06-04  DanielBryant: 6...h6 seems far too slow. What would be more normal?

tpstar: <DanielBryant> Nowadays it's very rare for Black to advance ... g5 until White plays d4 first; one sound strategy is the Fischer Defense 3 ... d6 and if 4. d4 g5 makes more sense. These Ng5!? lines often involve a piece sacrifice, but Black usually consolidates OK. Note 11. 0-0?? Qd4+ & 12 ... Qxc4, therefore 11. Qe2. Then Black could have traded Queens with 11 ... Qe7 but chose 11 ... Nf6, but after 12. d3!? Bb4+ and the King had to move (13. c3? Re8). Bad line for White who got killed - compare Adolf Anderssen vs F Amelung, 1862

An Englishman: Good Evening: DanielBryant, the Allgaier Gambit (5.Ng5) is unsound, and 5...h6 (Mayet's 5...d5 is unnecessary) is not as bad as it looks--a piece is worth a little trouble. Capablanca won a very early game vs. Corzo (not in this database) defending against the Allgaier.
Mar-21-05  trosky: the main problem of Allgaier is study theory, h6 is more safety and black are better
Aug-11-09  sfm: White gives a piece to get an attack going. The final position shows that he reached his goal.
Aug-07-12  shakman: Wondering on 2 moves....

5. Ng5 h6 ... is a standard move?

and in the game instead of 7.Bb5...why not Ne4?
