Oct-29-04  InspiredByMorphy: An intriguing game! Where did Anderssen go wrong? My only guess is the pawn marching instead of developing the queen rook. 14. Rag1 looks better to me.

tpstar: <InspiredByMorphy> The decisive mistake was 2. f4!? which was promptly refuted by 2 ... ef! and Black won brilliantly.

What's the follow-up after 22. Rxg4 anyway?

Oct-30-04  InspiredByMorphy: <tpstar> I found where white went wrong earlier in the game. 9.Nd5! Kd8 10.g3 Qh3+ 11.Ke1 Qg2 ( 11. ...dxe5 12.Bg5+ Kd7 13.Bf1 Qh5 14.Nf6+ wins the queen.) 12.Bg5+ Be7 13.Bxe7+ Ke8 14.Rf1 dxe5 15.Bf6! wins. In reply to what follows 22.Rxg4 , white wins.

  tpstar: <InspiredByMorphy> Nice line, and I agree up to 9. Nd5! Kd8 10. g3 Qh3+ 11. Ke1, but here 11 ... Qg2? is pointless with 5 Black pieces sitting on the back rank. What about 11 ... Be6 12. Bg5+ Kc8 13. Bf6 Rg8 instead? Note this keeps the Qh3 covering the Nh6 for now (so Ne7+ can be met by ... Bxe7), plus the threat of ... dxe5 is still on, plus the Nd5 is pinned against the Bc4. Overall I don't like Black's game here starting with 5 ... Qh4+!? & 6 ... Nh6, so 3 ... d6 is best by test. ;>)

You know, if someone were to be inspired by your studious example, they would be InspiredByInspiredByMorphy!

Mar-01-09  just a kid: Doesn't 34.Kf1 draw or give White a better chance?

louispaulsen88888888: Yes it looks like 34 Kf1 draws
Sep-21-22  Aminda: 33. Kf1 does draw. 34 Kf1 not possible in this alternate universe.

louispaulsen88888888: I meant in the universe where thats possible.

louispaulsen88888888: I need a universe where punctuation is rendered correctly.
Sep-23-22  Gregor Samsa Mendel: What is not obvious (to me, anyway) is that white draws after 33 Kf1 f3 34 Rh2! because 34..Qxh2 leads to a not-so-obvious (to me) perpetual check after 35 Qd4+ Kg8 36 Qg4+.
