Kibitzer's Corner
May-20-05  Ziggurat: The only decisive game out of 25 (!) between Andersson and Spassky in this database. I remember hearing that they used to play tennis together and often settled for quick draws to be able to get to the tennis court as soon as possible.
Feb-14-07  waddayaplay: I wouldn't be surprised. After this game, Spassky played Andersson some 15 times. Only of of those games was over 26 moves long ( Spassky vs Ulf Andersson, 1986 ).
May-07-15  A.T PhoneHome: Perhaps Spassky had forgot his tennis racket home.

Sargon: Does anyone know why Black resigned here? White is up a (passed) pawn, but what else is going on?

HeMateMe: I think black is losing the d pawn. White will play R-d1. When black plays R-d8 White plays c5 and the pawn will be captured.
May-11-19  Count Wedgemore: <Sargon> Black is about to lose his d-pawn as well after White plays Rd1 next. If Black tries to defend it by playing something like ...Rd8, then c5! is a killer. And with two extra pawns, White can easily march down and queen his c-pawn.
May-11-19  Count Wedgemore: <HMM> Great minds think alike :=
