Mar-01-06  agressivechess: I have a question for crafty and that is that after 43...-Nxe2 doesn't Black have the better of the endgame?
Mar-01-06  zhentil: After 43... Nxe2 44.Qxe2 Qxh4 45. e6 Qf4+ black takes control of e5 and white can lay down his king.

Botvinnik's bad position becomes hopeless after 39.Qf2? Ba6! 40.Rcd1 d4! 41.exd4 Bxe2 42.Rxe2 Nxf4. As has already been pointed out, White could have resigned after 43.d5 Nxe2 44.Qxe2 Qxh4 45.e6 Qf4+. Instead Ragozin let Botvinnik gradually climb back into the game, then blundered in his turn with 53...a4. In the final position Black has no good answer to 58.Qxd4 and Be2#.

How did this make a list of Botvinnik's best games?

Apr-02-20  pavaobjazevic: The answer to keypusher question is the move 44.f4! White has one pawn less but it is better according to GM Valeri Beim in his strategy book.

Botvinnik's explanation was: "The dead bishop has returned from its grave. The bishop is alive now!!! All white pieces are working together. The fact that black has an extra pawn is not important."

It is a wonderful example that the value of the chess pieces changes according to the position.

Apr-02-20  pavaobjazevic: By the way, the best way to win was:

43... Nxe2 44.Qe2 Rfe8 45.e6 Qd6+ 46.Kg2 Rxe6!!! winning
