Jul-22-05  lentil: hmm. this was difficult: 37. ... Kf8 or g8. 38. Qc8+ Kf7 or g7 39. Qd7+... eventually we get Q/e7 and K/g8 with W to move, then XX. Qe8+ Kg7 XY. f6+ forcing XY. ... Bxf6 XZ. Bxf6+ Kxf6 and XA. Kxh2. B can't take the a-pawn because of a fork. nice.
Sep-28-06  ToTheDeath: Queen on an open board is often worth much more than two rooks, esp. if the opposing king is exposed.

jessicafischerqueen: This is <Round Three> of the first <Charousek-Maroczy> Match

Budapest Chess Club 1895

<Charousek> won this Match +2 -1 =0

Jul-01-18  ughaibu: After 36....Rb2, what can white do? For example, 37.f6 Kg6, 38.Qg8 Kh5, 39.f7 Bd4 etc. And there's a draw with 40...Rg3.
Jul-01-18  ZonszeinP: Hi. Perhaps white could try a6 (rather than f6+) (?)
Jul-01-18  ughaibu: Then 37...Rg3 appears to win. If 38.Kh1, then Rg5, or 38.Kf1, then Rf3.
Jul-01-18  ZonszeinP: Brilliant!
I was only thinking about ...Ra3
..in your variation (if Kh1) then after RxB
a7??
Is impossible because of mate in h2!
Jul-01-18  ZonszeinP: And of course Kf1 ends with mate too
Jul-01-18  ZonszeinP: 37-f6 has to be the only hope all the same
Jun-25-20  syracrophy: The last two moves were dramatic: a mutual blindness!

40.f6?? <♕d8+ still wins> ♖a1+?? <♖g3+! draws!>
