Kibitzer's Corner
Mar-29-03  Rookpawn: The middlegame position is so closed that one pawn extra is not sufficient to win. Interestingly, Black retained all eight of his pawns until White's 55th move. Then, Black retained the seven remaining pawns for the next 52 moves!
Mar-29-03  ughaibu: Imagine playing games like this for a living.
Feb-13-04  Whitehat1963: 154 moves! Geller's longest in the database.
Apr-27-06  soberknight: And Geller's shortest? 0 moves, against Janosevic, elsewhere in this database.
Apr-27-06  soberknight: Can someone explain Geller's 92...Bf2? Not that he needed the bishop anyway, but I don't see anything after 93 Rxf2 Rg3.

  Honza Cervenka: <soberknight: Can someone explain Geller's 92...Bf2? Not that he needed the bishop anyway, but I don't see anything after 93 Rxf2 Rg3.>

93.Rxf2? Rg3 brings a threat Rg1+. Then 94.Rg2 loses for 94...Rxg2 95.Kxg2 h1=Q+ 96.Qxh1 Rxh1 97.Kxh1 Qh7 98.Kg2 Qh4 and the Queen invades white's camp with decisive effect. 93.Rxf2 Rg3 94.Rf1 is even worse as black gives mate in four moves: 94...Qh7 95.Ra2 Rg1+ 96.Rxg1 hxg1=Q++ 97.Kxg1 Qh1+ 98.Kf2 Rh2#. So the only defense is 94.Ra1 with possible continuation 94...Rg1+ (94...Qh7? 95.Rg2 is too slow.) 95.Qxg1 hxg1=Q++ 96.Kxg1 Rh3 97.Kf1 b5 98.Ke2 bxa4 99.bxa4 Qa7 (threatening 100...c4) 100.Bd2 Qb6 with following Qb2 and decisive advantage of black.

Feb-17-08  xrt999: Geller has such an interesting style. It seems like 99% of the time if you stick a pawn in his way he will decline it.

For example: 18.e4, 23.g4

Many of Geller's games display this tone.

Dec-03-08  WhiteRook48: So hxg1♕is a double check... no wonder ♔xg1 was forced
Jan-28-09  WhiteRook48: what is weird is that Geller played so long
Feb-04-09  WhiteRook48: nice game, but they could have called draws sooner
Feb-13-09  WhiteRook48: like on the first move
Mar-23-09  WhiteRook48: so Geller is the gambit decliner?
