Kibitzer's Corner
Jun-17-06  Maynard5: White's initial mistake here is 14. d4?, although the error is compounded a few moves later with c5? Instead, 14. f4 looks good for White. Apparently, many players in the mid-nineteenth century were not comfortable with positional play!
Dec-21-13  thomastonk: In Harrwitz' "British Chess Review", volume 1, p 371-372 the game score differs at several points, say Black's 4th and 5th move are switched, as well as White's 32th and 33th. This will be difficult to decide, but the final move here should be wrong: Harrwitz announced a mate in 5, and that cannot be achieved with the senseless 41.. ♖a2. Instead I assume that 41.. ♖a7 happened (it's only a mate in six: 42.♖f5+ ♔g6 43.♖g5+ ♔f6 44.♖g6+! ♔xg6 45.f5+ ♔xf5 and 46.. ♖a1#).

dernier loup de T: This games seems to be the nineteenth of the contest.
Aug-25-20  OMH: This game was also published in The Chess Player's Chronicle, January 1854, p. 13, and there Black's 41st move is clearly given as "R. to Q. R. second", that is to say Ra7.
