offramp: 26...Rxc3 is a funny move; it allows white to recapture with check.
Sep-17-13  csmath: Toothless white opening and then serious positional error with cliche move

17. Rc1? [allowing the next move]

17. ...Nb4! [Kasparov won't miss such a move]

18. Bc4? [as if white is blind?] Nd3

19. Kd2? [yet another puzzling move] Nxc1

20. Rxc1 Rfc8

21. d6 [this is the grand move white planned?] Kf8 [anti-climactic but now white can simply resign already]

...[few more unnecessary moves]

This is one of the fastest defeats in Grunfeld sidelines.

Sep-17-13  whiteshark: Event: <Munich Intel Express blitz '5> whatever that means.
Sep-17-13  Nerwal: White's play wasn't great by any means but this doesn't come out of the blue; white's position after 16... ♗f5 is quite unpleasant. 13. d5 is probably a mistake; white should wait for ♗b7 before playing that and hurry with development, like in Karpov vs Kasparov, 1987.
Sep-17-13  Abdel Irada: <csmath>: I think White gave up the exchange on purpose because he relied on the strength of his center pawns, and perhaps felt the position would be hopeless if he saved the exchange but lost the d-pawn.

If so, I can't altogether blame him. although, as the game progressed, his reasoning doesn't seem to have proved sound.

In any case, if White's neck didn't hurt before this game, I'm sure it did afterward.

perfidious: <whiteshark: Event: <Munich Intel Express blitz '5> whatever that means.>

Per another source, this is indeed listed as having been played in a blitz event held at Munich in May 1994.

A correction slip will be issued straight away.

Tough to get worked up over errors in a blitz game-not that it will stop some, it seems.

In other news, <Conrad93> is now reportedly examining the game with Houdini, Stockfish and Rybka at 34-ply depth, and will soon report back to let us know not only everything White did wrong, but also how Black could have won more efficiently, by way of proving how weak international grandmasters really are and, by implication, how much better *he* would do, if only the chess world would recognize his merits and let him play for the championship.
