Dec-28-08  Lt.Surena: Why not 17.. c6? Black seems to have given up control of d5 square. Need to take some pressure off of b7. The knight is pinned down defending b7 for a long time. By the 22nd move white gets to dominate the center. Sooner or later the d-file gets openned up (ie. pawn exchange)and Black has no way to share the control of d-file because the knight is still caged at d8. White dominates the b and d files and that's how he wins !

Penguincw: Interesting move. Deflection or mate.
Dec-16-11  goodevans: <52 ... Kd8?> certainly speeds up black's demise, but he was lost anyway. After 52 ... Ke8 53 Rxe7+ Kxe7 54 Rxg7+ Kf8 55 h6 the h-pawn is unstoppable.

I think what was behind Ray's choice of 52 ... Kd8 was that after 53 Rxe7 (not check) he could play 53 ... Rg1+ 54 Kh3 Kxe7. Now 55 Rxg7+ Kf8 56 h6? can be met by 56 ... Rh1+.

Question ... does black still get crushed if he doesn't "open the door" with <50 ... Rc1>?
