Jan-30-04  Catfriend: I never saw a good game with 4.d:c5. Is it a good one?
Jan-30-04  AdrianP: I don't like 4 dxc5?! but here's a good game
Bronstein vs Korchnoi, 1970
W sometimes plays dxc5 a bit later, I think, in the advance variation to use d4 as a piece outpost. Maybe some French specialists could help out...?
Jan-30-04  Catfriend: Thank you, that's a nice game! However, it still doesn't convince me! White leaves a weak e5 pawn and let's black to capture the center - all that for the outpost?
Jan-30-04  AdrianP: <Catfriend> You don't need to try to convince me... I think it looks suspect as well!
Jan-30-04  AdrianP: <Catfriend> You may want to have a look at this game as well, it's not the same variation but there are similar themes. Alekhine allows his whole pawn centre to be demolished for piece pressure and some initiative. Alekhine vs Euwe, 1936
Oct-12-04  Marius: Fine vs Botvinnik, 1938
Dec-10-05  lopium: I think I would have played 20.Bh5, black lose on that move I think because he can't avoid the loss of a rook, for a knight, though.
Jul-28-11  Akavall: I like 4. dxc5 because it gives white good attacking chances, especially if black takes the b2-pawn. This line is not perfectly sound, of course. I am sure, but nevertheless it is fun to play.

In this game I wouldn't want to play black, but they were OK until

21...Bb6??

Black probably thought that they were screwed either way due to threats on b7, and weak knight on a6. However, after

21...Rg8 22. Rc1 (22. Qxb7? Qxb7 23.Rxb7 Nc7) Rc8 23. Qxb7 still doesn't work 23...Qxb7 24. Rxb7

And black has 24...Kd6 25. Bxa6 Bxf2+
