Kibitzer's Corner
Aug-28-21  Brenin: Why did Black resign? His position is uncomfortable, but I don't see a clear win for White after 31 ... Kd7. It looks a little early for a loss on time.

HeMateMe: Clearly, this was a Pap Smear.

Aug-28-21  goodevans: <Brenin: Why did Black resign?> Maybe he was just annoyed at himself for letting such a strong position slip away.

With the benefit of hindsight, Black should never have allowed the nasty check on e6. 29...Bxf4 seems playable but SF prefers <29...Be5> saying it gives Black a significant plus.

But seriously, it's not out of the question in such a complicated game that Black lost on time and, whilst I prefer games to end with a clear result, this game was well worth playing through.

Teyss: <Brenin> Agreed. 31...fxe6? loses after 32.Rxe6+ and 33.Rxd6(+) winning the Q but apparently there is nothing after 31...Kd7. Loss on time or Black was impressed by the 5 pieces aiming at the BK?

Even earlier Black refused the sacrifice 30.Nde6+ but apparently it would have led to equality because the WK is exposed and the BRs are threatening e.g. 31.Nxe6+ Ke7 32.Qxd6+ Qxd6 33.Rg7+ Ke8 34.Rxd6 Rh2+ 35.Kb3 Rh3+ etc.

<goodevans> How do you find the puns? Either you managed to memorise all 7321 puns ever accepted, either there is a secret link I would be interested to know.

Aug-28-21  goodevans: <Teyss> No great feats of memory! I just happen to remember that one having found it in rather poor taste then I looked through Misa Pap 's games and it wasn't hard to find.

HeMateMe: A couple of years ago I submitted a pun, <Pop Quiz> for a game Fischer v. Pop____? that was used here.

Teyss: <goodevans> Thanks for your answer. Still a good memory ;-)

For info after some research I found the following link which lists puns alphabetically (under "Game of the Day Pun Indexes"): Game Collection: Game of the Day & Puzzle of the Day Collections

Useful before submitting the 100th pun about Nigel SHORT or Mikhail TAL(L). Praise again to the great <Phony Benoni> for all his work.

Black had a cracking position: I think he should have played 27...Rd8 with lots of threats. Instead Black played ...Re3xh3-h4. It was a bit of a <time-waster>.

White's position had improved, at the cost of a pawn.

I am sorry that I have sleepwalked through the kibitzes. Like a twit I have paraphrased your comment a day later, even with the diagram. It's not like me!
