Kibitzer's Corner
Nov-14-11  bronkenstein: Speaking of tactical awareness , `simple` silent <38.Qh4!> finishes the game on the spot .

Dvoretsky has tested many of his `students` (including strong masters and grandmasters !) giving them the position after black`s 37th to `solve` , and surprisingly vast majority of them opted for normal <38.Kf3> or something similar , which prolonges black`s life (drawing chances included) noticeably ( http://www.chesscafe.com/text/dvore... ).

Nov-16-11  Robeson: " surprisingly vast majority of them opted for normal <38.Kf3> or something similar ,"

Interesting. It's practically a one mover, so there must be some psychological or optical quirk involved here.

Nov-16-11  bronkenstein: <38.Qh4!> is one of those simple moves that we just won`t make =). OFC they look so natural in hindsight . To additional Kortchnoi`s credit ,(knowing his manner of time spending) he was most likely in time trouble @ that moment.
