nasmichael: 23:02 hrs, GMT -4. I sat up on this game. I like the action of it, and the decisions that are made by the players. The game feels active, and although some of the reasons moves are made may temporarily escape me, I am willing to revisit them for future chess activities.
Sep-07-04  ashalpha: Outstanding game that showed what Nigel Short was capable of in the late 80's and early 90's. 20...dxe4? was the crucial blunder opening the d-file for exploitation. 21.Nxe6 wins a pawn as after 21...fxe6 22.Bxe6 Kh8 23.Rd7 wins the piece back. 21...Rfe8?! was little better as was 22...Bd8?? which created the mating attack. After 23. Rd7 the game was over. 23...Bc6 was forced to avoid ruinous loss of material but the game continuation allowed continuing mating threats. 24.Qd4 threatening mate at g7 where 24...f6 is met by 25. Rxg7 and 26.gxf6 with the threat of f7 or the game continuation which if 28...Kg8 loses to 29. Ne6.

  tpstar: 24. Qd4! is a brilliant attacking move, where the Pf7 soon finds itself pinned against a mate threat on g7. Note 24 ... Rxe6 25. Bxe6 Bxd7 26. Qxd7 and now 26 ... fxe6? is out due to 27. Qe8#, and otherwise 27. Qxf7+ & 28. h6 with a rout. 29. Ne8! is a very piquant coup de grace, with both Clearance and Interference themes.

GrahamClayton: Short finishes in style with 29.Ne8! - clearing g7 to prepare 30.Qg7#, and blocking Ljubojevic's rook from playing 29...Rg8 to defend g7.
Feb-03-23  andrea volponi: 21...fxe6-bxe6+ kh8-rd7 qb4!-a3!. 22h5!!(nxg7!). 24qd4(rxf7 kxf7-qb3 ke7-nxg7). 26qd4(qg1!).
