Kibitzer's Corner
Sep-08-06  whatthefat: Was this game adjourned, or did Spassky end up finding the finish over the board?
Sep-08-06  nescio: <whatthefat: Was this game adjourned, or did Spassky end up finding the finish over the board?> I would say Spassky had found the winning line when they adjournded after Black's 41...Nf2+. In such cases Bogoljubov used to say to his opponent, even if it was Alyekhin: "if you like to amuse the audience, then don't resign!" Petrosian really did not resign, but appeared the next day for a few minutes.
Mar-28-08  Marmot PFL: 14.Bd3? is a surprising oversight from a strategic player like Petrosian. 14.Nd4 and Bf3 should at least give white a minimal edge. Bd3 looks more aggressive, but anti-positional, at by only game 8 Petrosian did not yet need to go in for risky tactics.
Apr-06-08  Knight13: White's position is already bad at move 14. Petrosian was trying to lure Black into playing ...Nxd3 so his position would be easier to play with, but missed ...d4 of course.
Jun-12-08  fblin: A wining line is
45 Kh1 Nf7+
46 ... Ng4
47 Kh1 Qh6+
48 Kg1 Qh7+ etc.)
Or 45 Kh2 Qe5+
46 Qxe5 Nxe5
and Black win (the a1 Pawn is unstoppable)
