Mar-16-04  rndapology: This, unlike the other 2 games featuring the e6 pawn sacrifice in the caro kann, did not end so well for white, white in the other two games being alekhine and keres. Black in this game neglects his king entirely and that seems to have been the key, although Tal seemed to have been expecting a castling when he moved his h pawn and castled queenside. Its rather easy to see the differing styles of Keres, AA, and Tal when watching the 3 games resulting from the e6 sacrifice.
Aug-25-05  ChessMan94: Is "F Campomanes" Florencio Campomanes, former FIDE president?

If so, only one game?! It seems he was not a serious chess player, still he managed to be FIDE president. Typical of many managerial positions where the person on top doesn't necessarily understand whatever he/she is managing...

Aug-25-05  Benzol: <ChessMan94> It probably is Florencio Campomanes. Other Campomanes games are here - see Campomanes Florencio but chessgames hasn't gotten around to correcting the reversal of the name yet.
May-04-10  Manuel G. Vergara: Campo is Dead!!! Long Live King Campomanes!!!
Oct-06-10  paltakmonasereg: i wonder where the black king is going. nadjorf name was even mentioned in his wikipedia. anyway, rip mr. president.

kingscrusher: This was Tal's first game as World champion! According to OlimpBase also, Tal was a bit late for this tournament because of his child's birth :

Sep-18-12  RookFile: The game is practically over at move 5. When you play a guy like Tal, that's not the time to experiment in the opening.

The game on this page was played October 20, 1960. It was preliminary round four of the <Leipzig Olympiad>, which ran from October 16 - November 9, 1960.

Tal's first game as world champion would appear to be this earlier encounter: Tal vs H Lehmann, 1960, which was played on July 27, 1960.

The first event Tal played as world champion was the <West Germany-USSR Match 1960> In Hamburg (27 July - 5 Aug).

Tal finished first in the individual standings with +7 -0 =1. The USSR won 51 -13.

May-23-25  GumboGambit: Campomanes left his mark in many ways within the Chess world. One of which was 3..♘f6, the <Campomanes Attack>.

This apparently qualifies as an ‘Unorthodox Reply’ to White’s ‘Standard’ Caro-Kann Opening. Perhaps the lesson there is: You’ll never stand out by blending in.
