  Korora: We all know Henny Youngman's iconic punchline, right?
Oct-21-24  King.Arthur.Brazil: Mondays: 27. Qxg8+ Kxg8 28. Rf8#
Oct-21-24  Mayankk: Monday Queen sac

27 Qxg8+ Kxg8 28 Rxg8#

A bigger mystery is why was Black still playing when down a Rook.

Oct-21-24  mel gibson: That's too easy - LOL.

  takebackok: Adios queen Monday,
Oct-21-24  stacase: 27. Qxg8+ Kxg8 28. Rf8# and what everyone else has said so far.
Oct-21-24  areknames: Not a real puzzle as White could play just about any legal move and Black resign as he is a Rook down.
Oct-21-24  Damenlaeuferbauer: After long pondering, the unknown (at least to me) Romanian-German chess player Dragos Ciornei finally found the mate in 2 moves with the nice queen sacrifice 27.Qxg8+!,Kxg8 28.Rf8#. I love Mondays!

  chrisowen: Ie its how its lap jangle its my quark its bot duck its v Qxg8+ afc pack its ae its bob its abluff frazzle its Qxg8+ gob;
Oct-21-24  TheaN: The text was fairly obvious for a Monday, but yes, White has no logical moves that lose. Even the fairly risky looking 27.Rf8?! is +20 as White controls e3 and the rook can fall back to f1 after 27....Qc1+ threatening Qxg8+ again.

  dorsnikov: The nefarious complications exemplified by the prestidigitations, exacerbated by unparalled recollections totally simplified the solution.

Slip Mahoney of The Bowery Boys

Oct-21-24  TheaN: Game can be explained fairly simple: Black self-destructed on moves 11 and 12. 11....exf5 = to ⩱, there's not much White has here. Dangerous perhaps, but there are enough pieces around the king. 11....Bxg3?! 12.fxg6 ±. Now Black should accept the cornered king with 12....Bd6 13.gxh7+ Kh8 ±. Instead 12....Bxh2+? 13.Kxh2 fxg6 14.Kg1 +- and Black never recovered. White missed a smother with 19.Nd8+! Kh8 20.Rxf8+ Nxf8 21.Nf7+ etc, but 19.Nxf8+ was clearly winning also.
Oct-21-24  Saniyat24: Dragos burned down Westermann's Palace...!
