Kibitzer's Corner
Jul-20-06  Fischeristhebest: 25.Rxa4 Bh3 26.Bxh3 Qxf3+ 27.Kg1 Bxc3 threatening Bd4#.
Jul-20-06  Fischeristhebest: Look at those tripled pawns!
Apr-15-09  cizio2: I was in the playing room that day. After the games, the 2 players left the final position on the board. When the other players came to the board (Shirov was among them), they took some time to understand the outcome of the game.
Apr-13-14  Everett: Make this a puzzle position!
Jul-02-15  SpiritedReposte: A hidden gem.

plang: Both players approached the game with great originality and after 5..Nd7 a new position had been reached. 6 Nxd4..Nb6 7 Qc2..Qxd4 8 Bb2..Qxc4 9 Qxc4..Nxc4 10 Bxh8..f6 would have been good for Black. 7 e3 (combined with the earlier 6 Bd2) sharpened the position considerably (and not favorably); 7 d3 followed by Bg2 and 0-0 would have led to equality. White's position continued to deteriorate after 10 Na3?!..a5; better would have been 10 Qb3 or 10 exd..exd 11 d3. Responding to Ivanchuk's pretty second pawn sacrifice 15..e3! with 16 dxe? would have been punished by 16..c5 17 Qb3..Nxc3 18 Qxc3..cxd. Perhaps White retained the e-pawn with 20 e4..Qe3+ 21 Kh1..Nf2+ 22 Rxf2..Qxf7 23 a3..Rd8 but Black would have maintained a clear advantage. 23 a4? (23 a3 was better) and 24 Nc7?! allowed a pretty finish.

Ivanchuk at his very best - voted the 5th best game in Informant 79.

Dec-22-19  siggemannen: Too good, Rxa4 is just the icing to the cake
Nov-13-20  Chesgambit: Bh3 coming
