Kibitzer's Corner
Mar-23-04  InspiredByMorphy: Nice game!
Jul-26-04  kevin86: Two nearly familiar names:
Benjamin Raspael-victim of Buffalo Bill (SILENCE OF THE LAMBS)and Wilbert Montgomery, former RB of Philadelphia Eagles.

Game is good variation of Legal's mate-guess what? Here white captures blacks queen first!

Aug-05-04  athyn: 10 .... Kc8 ???
I wonder if white would still win.
Aug-05-04  sneaky pete: <athyn> After 10... Kc8 11.Qd2 Qb6 12.c3 .. white wins. .. Ne2+ on move 11 or 12 doesn't help.
Mar-21-06  McCool: 10. e6. was whites best move I think.
Jan-04-14  thomastonk: The Black player was Hardman Philips Montgomery, see http://www.chessarch.com/excavation.... Correction slip submitted.

GrahamClayton: Unusual final position, with Raphael's bishops both being on the 8th rank:

HeMateMe: Great pun. Was ben a pet grizzly bear in the 1960s? A little bit before my time.

An Englishman: Good Evening: Great final position! Today's pun might go back to the 1960s, referring to a television program called Gentle Ben.

In fact, they are placed in an all-your-base-are-belong-to-us manner.

  Honza Cervenka: 6...Nd4 was a grave mistake. After 7...Kxf7 the game can continue with 8.Ng5+ Ke8 (8...Qxg5 doesn't work, as white takes the Queen with check) 9.Qxg4 Nxc2 10.fxe5 Nxa1 11.Rxf8+ +-. 9.Bg5+ is not bad move but 9.Rxf3 Nxf3+ 10.Qxf3 dxe5 11.Bxg8 Qd4+ 12.Be3 Qxb2 13.Qf7+ Kd6 14.Na3 Qxa1+ 15.Kf2 with a threat 16.Bxc5+ Kxc5 17.Qc7+ Kb4 18.Qc4+ Kxa3 19.Qb3# would have been much more convincing, especially if black would have played less "cooperative" 10...Kc8.

HeMateMe: Gentle Ben was a house broken brown bear, living with a family in the Florida everglades in the 1960s.

How do you suppose they kept the bear fed?
