Kibitzer's Corner
Jan-28-05  InspiredByMorphy: 9.Nxg5! leaves black scrambling to recover. 13. ...Qg6 would have continued the game but black would still be down two pawns with an exposed king. Another great game by Greco.
Aug-27-05  chesskoff: <<InspiredByMorphy: 13. ...Qg6 would have continued the game...> 13. ...Qg6 would result in the immediate 14. Qf6#; 13. ...Kxg8 would be the best continuation. The most white could do at that point is to trap the rook with 14. Bf6 and the material would be about equal.
Aug-27-05  sneaky pete: <chesskoff> Maybe after 13... Qg6 14.Qf6# black might still try 14... Qxf6.
Aug-28-05  chesskoff: <sneaky pete> Can't say that saw that coming. Maybe thats why they call you Sneaky Pete...
Sep-27-07  wolfmaster: It all began with 8...g5?.
Aug-06-08  RoyalFlush: Can't black play 10.. Kd7 ?
Sep-29-17  sneaky pete: 10... Kd7 see Greco vs NN, 1620
Sep-29-17  sneaky pete: Or this one Greco vs NN, 1620
Nov-04-17  obi4914: Can someone help explain why not 11. ...Qg7?

  saffuna: I think 12. Bxg8 and any re-capture loses.
Nov-05-17  sneaky pete: Yes, but who loses? After 11... Qg7 12.Bxg8 Kxg8

the black King is safer on g8 than he was on f8 and white's attack Bishop has disappeared. I doubt if white still has any advantage.

Maybe 11.Bxg5 .. was premature. I don't say that Greco was a patzer, but today every Roman schoolboy knows that after 10... Kf8 white should play 11.f4 ..

involving Rf1 in the attack.

Jan-05-18  ramanaji dhulipati: http//very short game
Jun-18-20  Ziryab: 13...Kxg8! is given in Gambett XII in Beale (1656). In the continuation offered there, both sides misplay the game that eventually finishes with advanced pawns running over the top of Black's remaining minor pieces.
