Apr-28-04  ychjae: I think after1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 f6? 3.Nxe5 fxe5??,black have no way to win,even a draw if white play right,it is so easy to win.
Jun-23-04  tacticsjokerxxx: anyone that's actually going to play the damiano defense ought to know that one can't take the knight?
Jun-23-04  ThePurplePimpernel: Hm... what about 3...♕e7?
Jun-23-04  Woodpusher: 3...♕e7 is considered best, but in 1620 nobody had thought of that continuation yet.
Jun-23-04  ughaibu: With exactly 50% of his games having been kibitzed is Greco the present %age record holder?
Jun-23-04  HailM0rphy: <Ughungbhaiu> I spend most of my time on the Morphy games and it looks like at least 80-85% have been kibitzed on
Oct-12-04  InspiredByMorphy: Grecos opponents eyes must have been bulging out their sockets after seeing 3.Nxe5 I imagine it was new to NN being as 2. ...f6 was played. I bet this NN never played 2. ...f6 again!
Nov-17-04  Knight13: Greco analyzed that f6 is a bad move. It says in some chess books.
Nov-17-04  drukenknight: Hey knight, why dont you stick f6 into a chess computer and see what it produces. You maybe suprised.
Nov-18-04  marekg248: You gotta be kidding, druken. There are 19 games in the database, black won <none>, and 2 were drawn. That is 90% wins. Or can you give some lines? I'm too lazy to look up what some Fritz "thinks".
Jan-25-05  sandyobrien: <drunkenknight>out of sheer curiosity, i checked. you're absolutely right... fritz 7 is analyzing 3. Bc4 as white best move, lol.
Jan-25-05  aw1988: I find that 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 f6 3. Nxe5 Qe7 is practically never played. It's kind of like that once considered terrible move in the Philidor 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 d6 3. d4 Bg4 (here it is) 4. dxe5 and here instead 4...Nc6 or 4...Nd7 I believe instead of 4...Bxf3??
Feb-19-05  Billage: So is this considered a pitfall or a trap? I read the book by Horowitz Swindles pitfalls and traps or whatever and I still can't distinguish.
Jun-17-05  aw1988: Correction. Nc6 or Nd7 is better, but still leads to a bad position.
Jun-17-05  schnarre: Black needed to play 6...d5 here. If Black returns the piece after 4. Qh5+ g6 5. Qxe5+ Qe7 6. Qxh8 Qg7 7. Qxg7 Bxg7 8. Bc4 Ne7 9. 0-0 Nbc6 10. Nc3 d6 11. Re1 Bd7 12. d3 0-0-0 ...he still faces an uphill battle but has at least a fighting chance.
Jun-17-05  aw1988: 6...d5 7. Bxd5+
Jun-17-05  who: Yes but Qf5+ is no longer viable.
Jun-17-05  aw1988: Isn't it? d5 Bxd5+ Kg6 Be6
Jun-17-05  InspiredByMorphy: <aw1988> The line goes 6. ...d5 7.Bxd5+ Kg6 8.h4 h5 and heres the tricky move which is necessary to force the win 9.Bxb7! 1-0
Jun-18-05  aw1988: <InspiredByMorphy> How does Bxb7 work?
Jun-19-05  schnarre: <InspiredByMorphy> After 9...Bxb7 Qf5+ is available again, but after say 10. Qf5+ Nf6 11. e5 Bc8 Black's position is still bad but not yet finished. What is the continuation for 9. Bxb7? <aw1988> After 6...d5, 7. Bxd5+ Kg6, 8. Be6 Bxe6, 9. Qxe6+ Nf6 Black can hold on a little longer after 10...Nc6.
Jun-19-05  aw1988: <schnarre> Nf6 Qf5+
Jun-20-05  InspiredByMorphy: <schnarre> After 6. ...d5 7.Bxd5+ Kg6 8.h4 h5 9.Bxb7! Bxb7 10.Qf5+ Nf6 is not a legal move. After 10. ...Kh6 11.d4+ wins.
Jun-20-05  schnarre: <InspiredByMorphy> Gotcha! Thanks!
Oct-20-05  DeepBlade: The Damiano Defense, right? Nice opening kill for beginners, but this opening is never seen in top-level play today.
