Mar-28-09 | | cheeseplayer: LOL! pawned!
very clever end game.. i was wondering where he was going in the end.. he was like giving away everything just to get "pawned" LOL! i was wondering why he played 28.c4??? followed by 29.Nc3 and then 30. h3???
he gave away a pawn and opened the d-file which the black rook did not waste anytime taking advantage of. i think 28.Nc7 should've given white a draw if not a win. i'm just a beginner so i am wondering, am i right? |

Mar-28-09 | | cyclon: Amazing finale. Magic takes over material reasoning. |
Mar-28-09 | | Pawnage: Pawnage approves of this pun. |
Mar-28-09 | | capablancakarpov: Jose Sanz should be called Sanz, because is his first surname and the surname that will be used in his life. His true that in Spain mother´s surname is kept,Aguado in this case, but for practical purposes is never used, but i don´t know why chessgames.com always has had the habit of name Spanish player with two surnames ( like Paco Vallejo Pons ), when in Spain is only named Paco Vallejo and nobody other than is family knows his second surname. |
Mar-28-09 | | number 23 NBer: Wow. I never thought I'd see the day when Chessgames would use the word "pwned." Fantastic ending though. I wish I could play endings like that. |

Mar-28-09 | | whiteshark: pwned = ♙ed! |
Mar-28-09 | | patzer2: Black's passed pawn combination with 31...Rxb2! would make for a good Friday or Saturday puzzle. |
Mar-28-09 | | PeterB: 31...Rb2! is certainly brilliant! I enjoyed the continuation very much. But does White excape with 31.a4! If then Rb2 White has pawn to a5 with a draw!? |

Mar-29-09 | | vonKrolock: In 2007 following game was published online, showing the same combination - Author: S. Lahtonen (Finland)

I can believe it's not the only example - I have one, anterior, but still unpublished... |

Mar-29-09 | | tivrfoa: <donehung: i was amazed at the power of pawns after looking over it.> me too.
true master piece!!! |
Mar-29-09 | | patzer2: <PeterB:> If 31. a4, Black still has a few tricks up his sleeve such as 31...g4 32. hxg4 Rxb2! 33. a5 Bxa5 34. Rxb2 Bxc3 -/= to with near decisive compensation (three passed pawns) for the exchange. Better perhaps is an earlier try with 29. Nd6 when 29...Rd8 30. Nxc4 Rd8+ 31. Kf2 Rc1 Nxb6 = to seems to give White better chances against Black's army of isolated passed pawns. |
