Jun-24-06  dakgootje: so Allies played both white and black and, how strange!, he won! well partly of course ;-)
Sep-29-06  sneaky pete: Played by Löwenthal and Capt H A Kennedy vs Anderssen and Louis Paulsen. Löwenthal suggests 23.Nd5 exd5 24.Bxd5 Re6? 25.Rxe6 dxe6 26.Bxc6 .. as an improvement, but 24... Rxe3 would be stronger, as pointed out by Suhle in the tournament book.

keypusher: It's funny to think of Anderssen and Louis Paulsen teaming up -- a modern equivalent would be Morozevich and Leko.

Did Suhle do a tournament book for London 1862? Or did he write part of Lowenthal's book?

Sep-29-06  sneaky pete: <keypusher> It's a different book, published in German in 1864 ("Das Schachkongress zu London im Jahre 1862"). The same year another booklet (40 pages) by Suhle was published with the games of a small tournament in Bristol, 1861, some consultation games from London, 1862, and the problems and studies from the accompanying problem competitions in 1861 and 1862. A reprint of two books in one volume was published by Olms in 1984.

During the London tournament some consultation games were arranged between teams of foreign against home players, this is one of them. Another one is Boden / Allies vs Anderssen / Allies, 1862 with Boden, Löwenthal and Capt H A Kennedy vs Anderssen, Dubois and Louis Paulsen. A third one (from Suhle's book) is Steinitz, Simone Antonio Pacoret De Saint Bon and Josef Kling vs Deacon, Medley and Walker. It may not be in this database, at least I couldn't find it yet.

Feb-29-08  D.Observer: Allies divided?
