Well, Lasker in 1892 and 1893 had totally dominated the leading players in the US and a couple of players in matches in Cuba prior to this tournament where he finished with +13=0-0. These results allowed Lasker to obtain financial backing to play against Steinitz, and begin his long reign as World Champion.

Lasker finish is much more impressive than Capablanca's +13=0-0 result in New York 1913 as one of Capa's wins was a forfeit against Stapfer, and another win was against Beihoff who dropped out of the tournament.
