Jan-28-07 | | Marmot PFL: So Svidler beats Topalov, then loses his last 2 games. |
Jan-28-07 | | KingG: Nice finish to the tournament for Karjakin. It's a shame he seemed to be so out of form for most of it. |
Jan-28-07 | | Karpova: Reminds me of Leko who also managed to go astray when winning a tournament was in sight. |
Jan-28-07 | | euripides: At the end I guess Black wins with 33.Qb1 Rxa1 34.Qxa1 Bc1+ 35.Rxc1 (Qxc1 allows Qa2 mate) Qf2+ 36.Rc2 Qxc2+ 37.Kxc2 Rxa1 and Black can probably use his king to stop the b pawn and win the h pawn with his rook. |

Qxa8+! Qxa8 34. Rxa3, where white still has some work to do due to his weak f-pawn and black's passed pawn on the queenside. Sure, white's Rooks don't quite coordinate yet, but I don't think it's reason to resign. |
Jan-28-07 | | euripides: <assassinater> very nice ! But White's f pawn goes at once. After <33Qxa8+ Qxa8 34.Rxa3> Qxf3 I think White has to play 35.Rhb1, 35.Raa1 or 35.Rhf1. If 35.Raa1 then 35...Bd2 seems to win the c pawn as well, and 35.Rhb1 Qg2+ seems to shed the h pawn. 35.Rff1 can be met by 35...Qg2+ 36.Kb1 d5 blocking the bishop's attack on f7. |
Jan-28-07 | | euripides: Karjakin suggested Svidler might have baled out with 18.Qb6. Can Black not then try 18...Qd7 ? |
Jan-28-07 | | Confuse: Dang, beating topalov really messed svidler up o _ o 2 losses right after, wow. |
Jan-28-07 | | Eyal: <euripides: Karjakin suggested Svidler might have baled out with 18.Qb6. Can Black not then try 18...Qd7 ?> after 18...Qd7 19.g5 the black knight has to go to h5 rather than d7, so maybe 18...Qc8 is a little better. In any case - if Black wants to avoid the exchange of queens (as he should), his attack seems to be delayed in those cases. Also, 19.Qc4 might have been somewhat better than Qa4 - after that move, White's position really goes rapidly downhill. |

Feb-06-07 | | ikipemiko: Svidler wasn't good prepared for Najdorf in the game against Topa and especially in this game. |
Apr-28-07 | | falso contacto: reminds me the game karjakin lost with anand. |
Jun-18-08 | | cloybloy: I don't quite get it. What's wrong with 20. gxf6? |
Jun-18-08 | | mezzieh: 20. gxf6 Rb4! and White must either give up his Queen or get mated. |
Jun-23-08 | | hitman84: This is simply an amazing game from the kid.
<mezzieh>Yes 19...Rab8 seems to be the refutation of 19.Qa4 |
Jun-24-08 | | messachess: 19...Rab8: is this a 'book' move? I sure do not understand it. |
Jun-24-08 | | messachess: ...or, rather, 20.pxN is met by 20...Rxp with the idea that if KxR, the Qc3ch., Kb8, Rb8ch., Kc1, Qa8ch. But, it looks like white could manage to take N & B w/pawn--aiming at a protected e8. No doubt, all ramifications of ...19. are worked out at this point in the GM 'book.' |
Jun-24-08 | | messachess: Yes, this was a very nice game by Karjakin--making it look almost easy (that is, after the inscrutable ...19.) |
