May-29-18  zb2cr: This is Monday-like: 26. Rxh7+, Kxh7; 27. Qh4+, Kg7; 28. Qh6#.

First, maybe?

May-29-18  zb2cr: First, definitely!
May-29-18  ChessHigherCat: Rxh7 Kxh7 Qh4+ Kg7 Qh6#. Good puzzle for a Tuesday.
May-29-18  tjshann: Rook Sac followed by Queen mate on h file. Saw this yesterday
May-29-18  Whitehat1963: Ridiculously easy, even for a Monday, let alone a Tuesday. And I struggle with most Wednesday puzzles.
May-29-18  ChessHigherCat: These Monday and Tuesday puzzles are supposed to be for beginners, so of course they're easy if you're not a beginner.

Penguincw: Yesterday was an easy Monday puzzle, today must be the Monday puzzle. That means tomorrow I should come back to solve the Tuesday puzzle.

Poor black king - constantly stuck on the h-file awaiting a rook sac.

2/2 this week.

Penguincw: Some more comments: these Olympiad games do make for easy puzzles. White's rating is 1964, black's rating is 1438. Wow!
May-29-18  patzer2: According to our Stockfish 9 analysis of move 12.?, Black's decisive mistake was 11...Qe7?, allowing 12. Rg1 +- (+1.92 @ 28 ply).

Instead, 11...c5 = (-0.19 @ 29 ply, Stockfish 9 analysis of move 11...?) would have held it level.

May-29-18  stst: R-sac followed by Q+, K smothered:
26.RxB+ KxR
27.Qh4+ Kg7
28.Qh6# supported by B
May-29-18  stst: Keep the range of difficulty between Wed & Sat, then repeat for Sat/Sun levels for two~three days.

al wazir: This opening cannot possibly be good for white. By the fifth move he has lost a tempo, and black has whatever advantage moving first confers.
May-29-18  saturn2: With 28 Bf6+ it is mate in 5 from Rxh7 on.
May-29-18  Mayankk: I think it should have been 25, White to move. Eliminate the defending knight first and then sac our Rook.

With the Black knight already eliminated, the Rook sac is probably at an easy Monday level.

May-29-18  agb2002: White has a bishop and a knight for the bishop pair.

Black threatens fxg5, fxe5 and Rg7.

The only shield of the black king is the bishop on h7. Therefore, 26.Rxh7+ Kxh7 27.Qh4+ Kg7 28.Qh6#.

May-29-18  stacase: <Penguincw: Some more comments: these Olympiad games do make for easy puzzles. White's rating is 1964, black's rating is 1438. Wow!>

I'm that 1400 rated player and going up against a 1900 rating is a certain loss for me. The final position is easy to see. What led up to that final Rook for Bishop sacrifice is not so easy.

May-29-18  bachiller: After 27. .. Kg7, white might play 28. Bxf6+, Kf8, 29. Bxe7, Qxe7, 30. Rxg8+ Kxg8, 31. Qxe7

Much funnier than the prosaic mate 28. Qh6.

May-29-18  Cheapo by the Dozen: This is a holiday week with, in effect, two Mondays.
May-29-18  schachfuchs: Hm, not a game to remember....
May-29-18  glad121: 23 ...g6 could have saved the game for black
May-29-18  malt: Has to be
26.R:h7+ K:h7 27.Qh4+ Kg7 28.Qh6#

Richard Taylor: Very good. White was in a hurry to win that one!

Richard Taylor: Black needed to play a bit more carefully and White's attack would have fizzled...or he would at least be equal. He overestimated White's abilities and plans I think...

Such is chess...and life...

May-29-18  Lambda: <These Monday and Tuesday puzzles are supposed to be for beginners>

That's not really true. A puzzle for beginners might look something like (white to move)

You've then got another level of stuff which would be beyond beginners but easier than Mondays, like (for either side)

May-29-18  scholes: I have been solving puzzles here more than 10 years here. Lambda what you post such puzzles never been problem of the day.
