tpstar: Great fighting draw! Maybe White's winning chances were more illusory than real, yet Black played very accurate defense.

Quite brave of Anand to bring back the Grunfeld. He must have spotted a hole in Topalov's repertoire.

ketchuplover: I think Anand should've played on!
May-07-10  ajile: Draw
Good result for Anand.
May-07-10  kellmano: < jackpawn: I just came in, just in time to see the draw agreement. So how was the game? Looked like it wasn't as exciting as the last few.>

It was still pretty tense though. For a good while (say moves 30 - 45) it looked like Topa had a good chance of winning.

May-07-10  zarg: Guess we will have to shoot GM Short another day...

Well defended by Anand, now take a rest day and destroy that VT!

May-07-10  arkansaw: Topalov let Anand off lightly today, but no matter, he will prevail in the end.
May-07-10  AgentRgent: <So does Anand have a white left?> There are 2 games left...

Nigel Short: Ok, it was a good fight. Vishy got a comfortable enough position out of the opening but then drifted into inferiority. Toppy began to torture him but also played inaccurately at some point allowing Black to escape the vice. It is a very tense match and much will depend upon nerves. We will see who is stronger. See you all on Sunday!

chessgames.com: Thanks to everybody for stopping by today. The action continues on Sunday (tomorrow is a rest day), so we'll see you all at 8:00am USA/Eastern (12:00 UTC).
May-07-10  patzer2: Resourceful defensive play on the part of Anand! With the White pieces in the next game, Anand has a chance to pull ahead in the match.

Peligroso Patzer: <kellmano: *** Bring on the last two games.

When are they?> Sunday, May 9th (#11) and Tuesday, May 11th (#12).

May-07-10  Ulhumbrus: The result suggests that Anand's choice of opening defence was right and also that he has begun to manage the time on his clock better. He could have spent a long time trying to calculate the cinsequences of 25...Bxa6, but then he would have risked throwing the game away in time pressure.
May-07-10  pulsar: Great fight. Thanks, GM Short, <CG>!

scormus: Nice play by Vishy to secure the 1/2. I'm sure he will be feeling better now than after game 9, especially after laying the green field ghost. A sign of weakness from Topalov? 24 hours ago I thought that hard to imagine. Thanks CG, Nigel and co.

Glad I wont have to eat late this evening.

May-07-10  turbo231: Fantasic draw, even their draws are exciting. Good to the last drop. Like maxwell house coffee.
May-07-10  Frankovich: After yesterday's game, I figured Topalov had momentum on his side. But now it looks like everything's pretty even for this 2 game mini-match. I wonder if there are any more opening surprises to come?
May-07-10  AgentRgent: <chancho: But does Anand have the white pieces in one of them.> They alternate colors every game (except for a color switch in the middle). So...Yes. Anand will have white on Sunday.
May-07-10  vsadek: <AgentRgent: Anyone watching the Video? Did Topalov offer a draw or did he ask the arbiter?>

As usual, he asked the arbiter

  chancho: <AgentRgent> Thanks.
May-07-10  SetNoEscapeOn: I heard that Anand offered Topalov a draw- and Topalov looked at the arbiter.
May-07-10  whatthefat: <SetNoEscapeOn: I heard that Anand offered Topalov a draw- and Topalov looked at the arbiter.>

Ridiculous. What the hell is the arbiter going to do in that situation?

LIFE Master AJ: As I said much earlier, it had to be a draw.
