 | | Natalia Pogonina: <Memethecat> A typical problem is knowing to execute combinations, but not being able to get there. Unless the opponent blunders, one has to create the prerequisites for the tactics with deep positional play. It's not like one can limit oneself to solving tactics only and become a really strong player. |
May-18-12 | | MarkFinan: <Sneaky> I do aim to please or entertain you all at some point ;) |

 | | kingscrusher: <Memethecat> Oh sorry you didn't mention blitz chess.... please ignore my last post. |

 | | Richard Taylor: Another draw for sure. I am off, Goff. |

 | | Natalia Pogonina: A handshake. The first half of the match is over: 3-3. Gelfand will have White again in game 7 on May 20th. Thanks to everyone for watching! |
May-18-12 | | extremepleasure2: According to the regulations of the match the colours will be reversed in 7th game. So does it mean that Anand will play with black pieces again in the 7th game? |
May-18-12
 | | Domdaniel: And there's the draw. Nobody was ever going to lose this ending. |

 | | chessgames.com: We thank you all once again for participating in today's live broadcast. We especially thank WGM Pogonina who--at an obvious loss for interesting things to say about today's game--is happy to just chat about chess and life as a professional chess player. Our next live broadcast will be at 2:00pm today for the Kamsky-Nakamura game from the US Championship. The World Chess Championship now sees a rest day. The action will continue on Sunday May 20th, at 7:00am USA/Eastern (11:00 UTC) with round 7, when Gelfand again gets the white pieces. We hope to see you back for more! |

 | | Sneaky: I am so underwhelmed. |
May-18-12 | | whiteshark: It's already enough as it is. |
May-18-12 | | Memethecat: Natalia & Kingcrusher, thank you both. I understand the need for good strategy/positional play as well as tactics, its the clarity of thought & analysis that's not the same. My thinking is more cloudy during a game. Apologies for trying to get some free tutelage, maybe its not the place. |

 | | moronovich: even at the pressconference almost nothing happens |
May-18-12 | | Ulhumbrus: <Memethecat> You may wish to consider taking a look at Lasker's manual of chess. |
May-18-12 | | PinnedPiece: <Me: <Natalia> Are you doing any special preparation for the upcoming Women's World Rapid & Blitz Chess Championships?> <Natalia Pogonina: <PinnedPiece> Solving tactics and playing blitz at nights :)>
Do you practice the blitz against a computer that has been limited in any way?
>
<NP: <PinnedPiece> Why would I play computers? :O> Post game analysis shows I clearly missed some striking lines in this exchange. . |
May-18-12 | | Memethecat: <Ulhumbrus: <Memethecat> You may wish to consider taking a look at Lasker's manual of chess.> Thanks for the suggestion. Does it deal specifically with my 'problem'? I'm sure its a common difficulty for mediocre players. |

May-18-12 | | garrettfu5: Boris is pissed lol |

 | | Joshka: The best thing that can happen for World Championship Chess, would be draws for all 12 games. Then they can go back to the "must win" format, 6, 8, or 10, or best of 24 games. IMHO. All the promotion, internet, playing in an Art Museum, ect. doesn't amount to a hill of beans, as long as you allow draws to count. |
May-18-12 | | Wyatt Gwyon: <Joshka> Agreed. This is definitely not a good format. |
May-18-12 | | Landman: <Domdaniel: Nobody was ever going to lose this ending.> Put me on the board opposite either one of these guys, and I'll show everyone how to lose. |
May-18-12 | | waustad: Maybe it isn't that bad that I slept through this one. |
May-18-12 | | Eyal: Position after 17...Rac8:
click for larger viewWhen Kasparov was discussing the game with Geuzdendam and Svidler, he said that this is really the only interesting moment - if White cannot keep the extra pawn then Black has absolutely no problems after <14...0-0!>, Anand's novelty (instead of 14...Rd8). They've looked at 18.Qe2 (otherwise White cannot hope to develop the bishop to d2 once a black rook comes to the d-file) 18...Qe4! 19.Qd1 (19.Qd3 Qxd3 20.Rxd3 Rfd8 21.Rxd8+ Rxd8 and the rook comes to d1) 19...Be7 (to prepare Rd8 - or the next move) 20.f3 Qc2 and it does look like Black has full compensation, or just regains the pawn very quickly. The undeveloped bishop is a serious liability for White. |

 | | blazerdoodle: <Honza Cervenka: <Also says he doesn't support the idea of awarding 3 points for a win.> I have to say that I agree with him on this.> Nothing else makes since. We seem to come up with all kinds of desperate ways to change this wonderful game in our bored to death age of the future. I’m glad I’m just a lowly pawn pusher struggling to get past class B. I can actually enjoy a game like this while the rest on here whine and pant and suffer. |

May-18-12 | | pericles of athens: so boring |
May-18-12 | | Robyn Hode: What a disaster this championship is for chess. Who, watching this, would ever want to sponsor a tournament? Youth, we need youth. This generation of players have lost their courage. |
May-18-12 | | Caissanist: I just read through the comments, and I don't get the Kasparov bashing at all. At least from the excerpts given here, what he says seems to be perfectly reasonable and, well correct. I mean, how many people here seriously believe that either Anand or Gelfand is the best player in the world right now? |
