Kibitzer's Corner
Jun-07-12  magnuschess: it is hard to believe that this endgame played in blitz game by black.
Jun-08-12  strobane: Was this game decided on time?
It seems that Rc8+ at least draws.
Jun-08-12  harshvk5: 44.Rc8+ Bc6
Jun-08-12  atakantmac: 31.Ne6+ Kd5
32 Nc7+
how couldn't Kramnik see that?

Honza Cervenka: <how couldn't Kramnik see that?> It was a blitz game.

Honza Cervenka: And Magnus missed that as well. Otherwise he would have played 30...Ra1+ at first and only in the next move dxe5.
Jul-01-12  PierreMontz: Good chess players are always lucky.
Nov-15-12  Cemoblanca: "A good player is always lucky." – José Raúl Capablanca ;)

http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Chess

May-31-14  geigermuller: isn't 32. Nc7+ refuted by 32. ..., Kd4?
Jul-16-14  Hot Logic: <geigermuller> I don't see how, since the e3 rook is defended.
Jul-16-14  rohangupta4398: the c passer would probably win after 32 Nc7+ Kd4 33 Nxa8 Bxa8
Oct-01-24  optimal play: <When Young Magnus took on Kramnik….>

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aNe...

Video of the game, except at the one minute mark the camera zooms in on the board and we can't see Magnus or Vlad.

Oct-01-24  Twilight of the Idol: For the record, per previous comments by <atakantmac>, <rohangupta4398> et al., after 31. Ne6+ Kd5 32. Nc7+ Kd4 33. Nxa8 Bxa8 34. Kf1 c3 35. Ke2 c2 36. Kd2 Bxg2 or any analogous line, the position looks drawn. The black king is totally cut off, but white also has no way to make progress.

So, for chess truth, 31. Ne6+ was a miss (Kramnik lost, after all), but there was no win.
