 | | FSR: This game was played in the last championship of the Gompers Park Chess Club on Chicago's Northwest Side. I won 5-0. The club had existed since at least the late 1950s. No doubt Lasch stood worse before 15...gxf5?, but that move was a bad mistake, after which I rolled him smoothly. |

Feb-27-20 | | dumbgai: I like how the game starts with a queen pawn move, then has the opportunity to transpose into a Sicilian on the third move, then becomes a modern Benoni, and then finally a KID. Unfortunately for black he allows white to play a free f4 while never getting to play his own ...f5. |

Feb-27-20 | | dumbgai: <Ratt Boy> Good find. So it appears that he’s still played a little bit in recent years. Wonder how that compares to back in 1986. In this game he gets crushed but it’s hard to tell whether he was a reasonably strong player that simply got outplayed by a master, or a hopelessly overmatched beginner who never had a chance. |

Feb-27-20 | | ajile: I was thinking White had a Taimanov type attack with 7.f4 but the move order is different and Black can equalize with the simple 7..exd5 : /
click for larger view The Taimonov attack actually goes:
1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 c5 3.d5 e6 4.Nc3 exd5 5.cxd5 d6 6.e4 g6 7.f4 Bg7 8.Bb5+ |

 | | ajk68: 10...Ne8 looks like the beginning of a bad plan for black. 10...exd5 looks better. If 11. exd5, black has rendered an eventual f4 push unlikely. Black follows up with 11...bc5, undermining the white d-pawn and making a square for the knight on d7. If 11. cxd5, black can expand on the queen-side. |

Feb-28-20 | | areknames: <10...Ne8 looks like the beginning of a bad plan for black> Most definitely the wrong idea in this position. <10...exd5 looks better. If 11. exd5, black has rendered an eventual f4 push unlikely. Black follows up with 11...bc5, undermining the white d-pawn and making a square for the knight on d7. | | FSR: <dumbgai: I like how the game starts with a queen pawn move, then has the opportunity to transpose into a Sicilian on the third move, then becomes a modern Benoni, and then finally a KID.> It was also a French Defense for a moment, after 2.e4. But then 2...c5 made it a Franco-Sicilian, followed by a Benoni after 3.d5. |
