Nov-30-16 | | Peter Smith: NBZ
Yes, I think Rb1 was the move with the idea of continuing chasing the black queen until it leaves the second rank of is exchanged on d2 or f2. I don't know what would happen, but at least white does not loose in one move. |
Nov-30-16 | | chessamateur: Karjakin missed an obvious only move of Rb1. Cracked finally under time pressure. Now he'll have to break strategy and go out for the win. |
Nov-30-16 | | rogge: Decent game. |
Nov-30-16 | | SCUBA diver: What if white had played 38. R-b1 |
Nov-30-16 | | Pasker: One more game right? |
Nov-30-16 | | lexfourmi: mc has this in his pocket, will cruise to championship in next game. but it really just feels like the one most used to playing under these circumstances won. |
Nov-30-16
 | | mistermac: I did not have as much respect in the past for Carlsen as I have now, but it seems that Karjakin is not quite good or daring enough to get winning positions. But, who would have been a better opponent in many ways? Still the ample lady has not yet sung, I guess, but I seem to hear her practising her scalas and thrills. |
Nov-30-16 | | Atking: What a wonderful game! Black positional pawn sacrifice in the center e4! beautiful. A world champion class move. |
Nov-30-16 | | morfishine: OK, finally I got my beer, hot dog, fries, chips, chicken wings and pretzel, chair is ready....wait, its over? |
Nov-30-16
 | | mistermac: Next game. please! |
Nov-30-16
 | | Domdaniel: In the match until now, Carlsen has had to press for a win. Now that he has gone ahead, the pressure is off. He won't find it hard to draw. He may even play 1.Nf3. |
Nov-30-16 | | john barleycorn: <Atking: ... A world champion class move.> I bet you know one when you see one. |
Nov-30-16
 | | mistermac: Man, the site must be busy! |
Nov-30-16 | | peristilo: Carlsen hasn't played this match very well but still played well enough. That's how strong he is. |
Nov-30-16 | | john barleycorn: <Domdaniel: In the match until now, Carlsen has had to press for a win. Now that he has gone ahead, the pressure is off. He won't find it hard to draw. He may even play 1.Nf3.> yes, things got easier for Carlsen. Yet I do not write of Karjakin. |
Nov-30-16
 | | Sally Simpson: That previous game (game 2 in the rapid) took it's toll on Karjakin. A bad blunder in a difficult game. But wonderful composure by Carlsen to shake off the dismay of Game 2. |
Nov-30-16
 | | Domdaniel: This time there was no prolonged defence. Black sacked a pawn and White quickly caved in. |
Nov-30-16 | | Atking: <SCUBA diver: What if white had played 38. R-b1> I think someone will give a computer line later but at first sight pressure is still strong even without Queens. Imagine black King on h4 the Rf2 Kg1 Kg3. Serguey collapsed under pressure but there is nothing strange in it as pressure was there from the opening until the end of that game. |
Nov-30-16 | | izimbra: FWIW, Stockfish thinks Black could have won from the position before the immediately losing blunder. Not a huge advantage, but a good position for slow grinding, with attacks on White's f-pawn and b-pawn. |
Nov-30-16 | | Drkiddos: Good job Boys and Kudos to a worthy Champion. Here for once the bookies were proven right! Congratulations to king Charlemagne |
Nov-30-16 | | dumbgai: 38. Rxc7 is a move that will be appearing in many blunder-themed books. |
Nov-30-16 | | thegoodanarchist: Didn't take Carlsen very long to get a splendid position! By move 16 or so I preferred Black's game. |
Nov-30-16 | | patzer2: Don't know if Karjakin could have held after 38. Rb1 Qf6 32. Be2 (-1.30 @ 31 depth, Komodo 9.1), but he had no chance after 38. Rc1? Ra1 (#22 @ 40 depth, Komodo 10.2). |
Nov-30-16 | | jerseybob: This whole 8.a3 line seems inferior to me. White might've varied earlier with 5.d3!?, as in Fischer-Smyslov 1965. But that said, in this game, 21.a4 looks bad, eventually opening lines to black's advantage. 21.d4?!?! might be worth a look, this being blitz. |
Dec-01-16
 | | FSR: <jerseybob> This was a rapid game, not blitz. |
