Aug-22-18  Jaburu: The endgame in the game os GO is denominated "yose". But in GO there are also the "o-yose" ("big end"). The chess also possesses your "o-yose" that I denominate "grande final" or "pré-final" (in portuguese). In the game, both detected the "big end", Nakamura with 27...Kf8 and Caruana with 30.Kb1, 32.Kc2, 35.Kd2 and 37.Ke3. I am developing the theory of the "big end" in chess. I am in the beginning. !
Aug-23-18  Ulhumbrus: After 14 0-0-0 !! Black's bishop appears to lack any targets on the white squares. This may be a brilliant stratagem on the part of Caruana.

HeMateMe: must have been good opening prep. white seems to get a busted kingside, but he is able to navigate the maze better than black. The Bishop's lack of scope results in no attack on white's castled king.
Aug-26-18  Albanius: This is not so much a Queen's Gambit Declined as an open Catalan E05 by move 5 or 6, but with Nc3 played early. IMO the position reached is more important for classification than the early transposing move order.

beatgiant: The simple 36...hxg5 seems to equalize. Maybe Black was trying too hard to win.

Sep-02-18  pdxjjb: After the mistake 36 ... fxe4, Caruana's best move objectively was gxh6 leading to Rf8 and black losing the advanced e-pawn: 37. gxh6 e3+ 38. Kc1 Kxh6 39. Rf8 Rf5 40. Rxf5 exf5 41. Re7 Kg5 42. Rxe3 ... (Stockfish 9)

Apparently Caruana didn't like the complication of having his K driven back to the first rank by ... e3. I've noticed before that Caruana has a preference for methodically closing off counterplay.
