Kibitzer's Corner
Jun-14-20  sconibulus: 9...Nd4 was the only move for black, after which both sides have the threat of capturing the opponent's c-pawn with a fork. The game would be roughly equal.

This 9...c6 blunder is pretty puzzling to me. The best I can surmise is that Fabi thought after Nxa8 and Nxc1 he would be able to trap the a8 knight while evacuating his own knight to safety. But in reality both knights are trapped, and he is simply down the exchange. Magnus didn't go for the winning 10. Nc7+, so I guess he believed in Fabi's plan too.
