Kibitzer's Corner
Jul-29-20  MordimerChess: The game was played during Day #8 of Legends of Chess tournament.

It was clash of two leaders. Both won the first seven rounds of round-robin phase and got their spots guaranteed in the semi-finals. But they still were able to produce great games! ⚔️⚔️

Seems like 20...f6 was a mistake.. which looks like inacurracy but it weakaned the pawn structure in front of the kinf and decisive d6 was possible in the future. Black should continue with 20...Bb4 21. Qa6 Bd6=

Jul-29-20  savage sanctuary: About <11.Bd2 Qxa2> = 390 games in the DB, only 13.1% victories for black...

The gambit 11 Bd2 was in great vogue in the 90's. And some would choose 12..Nd7 possibly to avoid all the theory relating to 12..Bg4 which had been played several times at Linares:

Shirov vs Leko, 1998

Gelfand vs Kamsky, 1991

V Tukmakov vs Gavrikov, 1989

Gelfand vs Ivanchuk, 1996
