Anderssen vs de Riviere, 1859

Oct-18-21  Delboy: Excellent game of the day. Memorability is much more important than some stupid pun. More like this, please

Isn't once a century enough?

<Oleg to Stand On> would've been a better title.

And where's the [Source]?

Dionysius1: I don't see the similarity <Phony Benoni>. Is it that they're both pretty games? I can't see any motifs in common.

sleepyirv: I'm no chess genius, but it seems bad to move g3 and then lose your light-square bishop. Not sure I have specific advice to White to stop this from happening, but I would just strongly discourage him from that route.
Oct-18-21  goodevans: <Phony Benoni> Not wishing to be a party-pooper but a crucial difference is that Anderssen's victorious king walk relied on a huge mistake by his opponent. I don't like to use the term 'blunder' lightly but I'm inclined to use it there.

<Dionysius1> Sarcasm is unfairly dubbed the lowest form of wit possibly because it's not always clear when it's being practiced. I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt. ;o)

I was struck by the unusual sight of the victorious king marching to the eighth rank in a middle aam position. Perhaps this is only a superficial resemblance, but it's still not something that happens every day.

Dionysius1: You're right! Sorry to be slow :-). I thought I'd get wiser with age. I sure ain't getting any quicker!
