The machine then pointed out 44. Re1 b2 45.Ng6 ends up with best play into a Rook ending and is most likely drawn.

  Honza Cervenka: This looks like a case of premature resignation but I would say that in fact white's resignation has come a bit too late here. If he would have resigned after 40...Qe4+, he could sleep very well, as he was dead lost at the moment. Of course, instead of 41...Rf3(?) black should have played simply 41...Rxf4 with next 42...Re2+ and the game was over.
