Nov-26-04  morphynoman2: Another nice and famous draw.
Mar-14-08  Knight13: I don't like 18...c5 since it sharpens the b2 bishop too much that it made it look like that bishop could cut through 12-inch thick concret.

Alekhine has played the opening very well and has serious threats. Bogoljubov, as Black, played 21...Kh8, although perhaps he could have got away with 21...Nd7.

After 21...Kh8 a small hurricane hits the black king's position, one of those little whirlwinds that happen in corners of playgrounds, full of leaves and crisp packets.

It ends up with Alekhine having ♕♙♙ v ♖♘♗:

He might have tried 29.Rxd7 followed by Qxf6+.

42.Qe5! would have been better than 42.h4. And that

44.Qb8 Bc6 45.Kh2 Rd8 46.Qc7 Rd3 47.g6+ Kxg6 48.Qxe7 might have led to a win for White. But who knows?

So. You found me out.

A while ago I found Game Collection: WCC: Alekhine-Bogoljubov 1934 ARCHIVE while walking around cg.com. I decided to scare other people away so that I could buy up the land cheaply.

And I would've gotten away with it if it hadn't been for you two meddling kids.

Sep-05-16  Howard: Sounds like offramp's been watching too many Scooby Doo cartoons !

Or, perhaps, Josie and the Pussycats. Granted, I don't recall the "meddling kids" expression being used on the latter show, but it would have been applicable on most of the episodes.

Feb-08-25  tbontb: One that got away, as noted by <offramp>. After Alekhine misses/rejects the most critical line (29.Rxd7), Bogoljubow defends stubbornly and Alekhine strives mightily but is unable to break down the Black fortress (last chance is probably 45.h5 Bxh5 46.Qc8+ Be8 47.g6 Bf6 48.a5). A worthy draw.
