Pawn and Two: Round 1 at Bad Nauheim 1936. Alekhine could not have been satisfied with his play in this game against the eventual 9th place finisher in this 10 player event.

The game was close until move 31. Then Van Den Bosch erred with 31...Qe3+. It seems he was relying on getting adequate counterplay against Alekhine's weak Pawns. However, the move 31...Qe3+ gave Alekhine the advantage, and after several more moves this advantage became decisive.

Instead, per Fritz 9, the game would have been level after either 31...Qe1+ 32.Nf1 Qe6 33.bxc6 Qxc6 34.Qd3 Qe6 or 31...Qe1+ 32.Nf1 Qe4 33.Qxe4 fxe4 34.bxc6 Ke6.

At move 48, Alekhine could have won the game in a few moves with 48.Nc3! b4 49.Nd5 Ke6 50.Nxb4 Kf6 51.a4.

At move 57, Fritz found at least 4 moves that would win for White: 57.Nd5, 57.Ng2, 57.Kc6 & 57.Kc5.

Fritz's first choice is 57.Nd5, with the continuation 57...Kf8 58.Ne3 Ke7 59.Kc6 Nf7 60.Kc7 Ng5 61.a5 Ne6+ 62.Kb6 Kd8 63.a6 Nc7 64.a7 winning for White.
