Kibitzer's Corner
Feb-13-06  hayton3: Nice endgame by Adams.
Feb-13-06  Saruman: 50.-Kc7 51.Ra8 wins, in view of 51.-Rxg7 52.Ra7+ Kxc6 53.Rxg7.
Feb-13-06  hayton3: Exactly - an instructive endgame that highights 2 important motifs when the attacking rook is right in front of its pawn on the 7th rank.

1) Vacating the queening square to check a king that's not on the 7th rank with the rook so as to be able to queen the pawn next move with the protection of that rook.

2) Vacating the queening square to set up a skewer through the king on the 7th should the defending rook take the pawn.

Feb-13-06  Hongkonger: This isn't something that I get to say too often, but I went to school with one of these players: Dickenson not Adams I might add. Neil was (no doubt still is) four or five years my junior which would make him about 18/19 at the time of this game to Adams' 13 or so.
Feb-15-12  shepi13: Bxc4 was a blunder, before that the game should have probably been drawn as an a or b pawn cannot force the king from a7 and b7, and therefore neither pawn can promote.
Sep-22-12  vikram2791: The game could have continued 50...Kxc6 51.Rc8+Kd7 52.g8=Q Rxg8 53.Rxg8 resulting in the position below.
