WannaBe: This question is so great, and I see that no one has answered yet, I will break my vow of silence....

offramp: If 33.Nxa4 then white might come under an attack with 33...Qa7 34.Nc3 Bb4. Instead Adams stops the a-pawn from moving with the idea of picking it up later on. In the end he doesn't need to, because black gets into problems with his f6-pawn. But I wonder why Adams didn't play 35.Rf1?

  WannaBe: if 35. Rf1

35... Kd8 36. Qxf6+ Kc7 37. Rc1 Kb7 38.

Now, back to my vow of silence.. :-)
