Jul-08-04  InspiredByMorphy: What a great game! I wish Adams played the Kings gambit more often. Great attacking!
Jul-09-04  themindset: was this a thematic?
Aug-27-05  pjonek: Why not 26...Ng4, giving back the piece and continuing the game?

a) 27. Qxg4 Qxg4 28. hxg4 and Black's endgame is better

b) 27. hxg4 c5! blocking off White's active rook and effectively neutralizing the attack

c) 27. c3 Qf4 28. Qd3+ Kh6 29. hxg4 c5! and White has nothing, as his "active" rook is trapped.

plang: Another game that puts the Kings Gambit in a dubious light. Shirov said he had considered using the Bishop's Gambit with white until he found this defense with black. Shirov considers 9 d3..0-0 10 Qd2 to be a better try for white but still feels that black would have a solid advantage in this line. Shirov missed 17..Ne4+ 18 Kg1..Nf4 which would have left white with serious problems.
