Kibitzer's Corner
Aug-12-03  PVS: TWO QUESTIONS ON THIS ENDING

Could white have won sooner after 47. Kf4?

Could black have drawn after 49...Bc4?

Aug-12-03  Ashley: <Could white have won sooner after 47. Kf4?> 47...Bc2 48.b4 looks like a win for white.
Aug-12-03  Kenneth Sterling: Ashley, I agree with your analysis, but 47...a4 is a better move. After that 48. Kf5 Kd5 49. Kf6+ Kc4 etc. probably still wins for white.
Aug-29-05  Hesam7: This is one of Tragicomedies in Dvoretsky's Endgame Manual. According to him 51 ... Bc4 would have drawn, he gives this line:

52 Rb8 Ke5 53 Re8+ Kd5 54 Kf4 Ba2 55 Rd8+ Kc4 56 Ke5 Kb3 57 Rd2 b4 =

Oct-26-12  vinidivici: 51...Kc4 is error, the bishop would soon trapped.
52.Kd2 Ba2
53.Kc1 Bb3
54.Rd6 Ba2
55.Kc2 Bb3
56.Kb1----1-0

<Hesam7>

<52 Rb8 Ke5 53 Re8+ Kd5 54 Kf4 Ba2 55 Rd8+ Kc4 56 Ke5 Kb3 57 Rd2 b4 =>

I agree 51...Bc4 is much better move and maybe lead to the salvation. And the ridiculous bishop trap wouldnt be happen.

After your suggested line (Dvoretsky in this case), its better 56.Rb8! to prevent the black king move to the b3 square.

But of course the result still vague. But i believe with the maximum play, it would be a draw.
