Apr-27-15  M.Hassan: White is ahead having a Rook for 3 pawns

31.Rxh6+ Bxh6(forced)
32.Qg8#
One of the easiest Mondays

Apr-27-15  greed and death: I admit, I looked at 31. Qg8+ first... :P

31. Rxh6+ Bxh6 (forced)
32. Qg8#

Apr-27-15  agb2002: White has a rook for three pawns.

The black bishop stops 31.Qg8#. Hence, 31.Rxh6+ Bxh6 32.Qg8#.

Slower is 31.Rxg7.

Apr-27-15  stst: R-sac:
Rxh6+ Bxh6 (forced)
Qg8#
Apr-27-15  whiteshark: 27... Rf5 ??? that's cruel
Apr-27-15  lost in space: <<yadasampati:> To <lost in space>: Bob Geldof (The Boomtown Rats) did not ...>

Others too.

Apr-27-15  patzer2: Black was busted even without <27...Rf5?>, allowing the two-move mate <31. Rxh6+ Bxgh6 32. Qg8#> which solves today's easy Monday puzzle.

Black's game started to seriously decline after <11...Nh5>. Instead, Deep Fritz 14 indicates Black could have practically forced a draw by perpetual after 11... fxe4! 12. gxf4 exf4 13. Bd4 Qxh4 14. Bxg7 e3 15. Qd4 Qxf2+ 16. Kd1 Nb4 17. Bxf8 Qc2+ 18. Ke1 Qf2+ 19. Kd1 Qc2+ 20. Ke1 Qf2+ 21. Kd1 =.

Apr-27-15  Infohunter: Maybe I am missing something, but I just can't see what compelled Black to play 27...Rf5.
Apr-27-15  Jamboree: The problem with this "problem" (i.e. White to move on move 31) is that about 95% of any random moves for white also win easily, as he is a rook up and has a huge attack too. Basically, ANY move other than something that hangs the queen will win fairly quickly.

Yes, Rxh6 wins quickest, but if the problem is white to play and win, then basically any move (other than, say, 31. Qc6???) is a correct solution.

Apr-27-15  stacase: That took less than 10 seconds.
Apr-27-15  mistreaver: Monday. White to play. Very Easy. 31?
31 Rxh6+ Bxh6
32 Qg8 mate
Apr-27-15  zb2cr: Nice. Draw away the Black Bishop with 31. Rxh6+, Bxh6. Then mate is available with 32. Qg8#.
Apr-27-15  CHESSTTCAMPS: White has a rook for 3 pawns and a deadly rook battery on the open g-file. White could win easily enough with 31.Rxg7, but a quick mate is available with 31.Rxh6+ Bxh6 32.Qg8#
Apr-27-15  morfishine: Mate in two: 31.Rxh6+ Bxh6 32.Qg8#

*****
By the time White plays 29.Qd5+, Black's position is a wreck, (down two pieces including a rook). In the <CG> database, Broncept has 8 games; all vs Dzindzi and all losses; Is this really IM Broncept? or is 'Broncept' a rather weak chess program? Or is/was Dzindzi really this powerful? Here, Dzindzi smashed 'Broncept' in 24-moves: Dzindzichashvili vs Broncept, 1995

Apr-27-15  schachfuchs: Not very instructive game! :-(
Looks like a really weak chess program. Any real human player would have been ashamed to continue in such a totally lost position against a GM...
Apr-27-15  TheaN: Monday 27 April 2015 <31.?>

White mates with <31.Rxh6+ Bxh6 32.Qg8# 1-0>, but one ponders why this is classified a puzzle. White is already up a rook, and can simplify to the ridiculously easy endgame with 31.Rxg7 Qxg7 32.Rxg7 Kxg7 33.Qxb7 . I looked at Qg8+ first because it's monday, then saw the double capture on g7 only to then spot the mate in two. Odd choice.

Penguincw: (Why can't easy puzzles be on Sunday).

Anyway, the first move I thought of was a queen sac, but then I saw the rook sac to open up the g8 square.

Apr-27-15  kupton: Broncept, was a bad Concept.
Apr-27-15  jffun1958: 31.Rxh6+ Bxh6 32.Qg8#
Nice deflection / line opening!
Apr-27-15  Cheapo by the Dozen: Our other friend, the g-file! :)
Apr-27-15  Cheapo by the Dozen: The famed Capablanca quote about the introduction of the Marshall Gambit came to mind.

But <jith1207>'s observation above trumps that.

Apr-27-15  Mating Net: As <Jamboree> pointed out, White is up so much material in the given position that the win is just a matter of not screwing up.

Bubo bubo: It's Monday, so the solution must be 31.Qg8+ - oh, wait, we better clear the g-file first: 31.Rxh6+ Bxh6 32.Qg8#
Apr-27-15  kevin86: Exchange sac opens the door to mate by the queen
Apr-27-15  BOSTER: Broncept:" What took you so long?".
White to play 19.
